Pietro TESTA called il Lucchesino (Lucca 1612 - Rome 1650) "Allegory of Winter" Original etching with touches of drypoint signed and dated in the plate on the bottom right "Petrus Testa Pinxit. delin. et Sculpsit 1644 ”which is part of the four subjects dedicated to the Allegories of the Seasons. Copy in the third state with the address of the Roman publisher Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi (1627 - after 1691), printed on laid paper bearing the watermark "Lily on three mountains in double circle with the letters A and N" similar to Heawood 1622, attributable to Roman paper production of the second half of the seventeenth century, the imprint of the plate is present on the low, right and high edges while almost entirely missing on the left edge, the sheet appears to have been folded both vertically that horizontal in all its length and the traces are clearly visible on the verso, several short tears insist on the edges and have been restored in ancient times while on the left side there are deficiencies reinstated without drawing. Despite the particularly beautiful inking, this specimen is to be considered in a medium state of conservation. The images of the details unequivocally show the defects illustrated and therefore we believe the object is not liable for return. Bibliography: Bartsch “Le Peintre-Graveur” Vienna 1820 vol.XX pag.227 n ° 39. Cropper "Pietro Testa's Etchings of the Seasons" in Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes vol.37 of 1974.
